I had something really strange happen. I had someone actually say "no" when I asked if they wanted to be in it. I can joke all I want, but it suddenly occurred to me that I've been really really lucky so far. I've half-heatedly asked people, who replied by looking at me like I was crazy (maybe I am). But for the most part people have been agreeable, cooperative, and in some cases down right tickled about the whole thing. I don't suppose that there are too many nut jobs out there doing this. I'm special that way.
I should also say that she's way nice, and I have to agree with her reason for not wanting to be in it.
The hunt for an actress for this part continues.

So this one time at film school...
I was prepping one of my dreadful little student films, and I decided to cast an actor I'd used in an earlier project. He was a friend, he'd done a great job in my other film, he was upbeat and friendly and cooperative... and when I asked if he'd be interested in a repeat performance, he gave me a flat, unequivocal no. He wouldn't elaborate on his reasons for refusing, either, which made me think he hadn't had a great experience on my film, which led me to think maybe I wasn't as, y'know, natually delightful to work with as I always assumed. I felt terrible and guilty for weeks about this.
Of course, it could just be that he decided student films weren't his bag. I think guerilla filmmaking can be a hooty good time, as long as nobody takes things too seriously, but tastes differ.
I have faith you'll find a fantastic actress for the role somewhere.
